Incorrect System Clock on Salto Lock

Severity: High

Applies to: Salto XS

The internal clock on the Salto lock is incorrect. This causes valid keys to be rejected, as the lock cannot properly validate key validity periods.

Why does this happen?

Every Salto lock has an internal system clock used to validate keys. When a user tries to open the door, the lock checks if the key's start and end dates are valid at the current time. If the clock is wrong, this validation fails — even for permanent keys.

Common causes:

  • Battery replacement — The clock may reset or drift when batteries are changed.
  • Power outage — For wired locks, a power interruption can affect the clock.
  • Clock drift — Over time, the internal clock can gradually become inaccurate.

Why are permanent keys affected?

Unloc uses time-limited key data to reduce the risk of abuse. This means even permanent keys are issued with validity windows that get refreshed periodically. If the lock's clock is significantly wrong, it may reject keys that are actually valid.

How to fix it

The clock must be updated using a Portable Programming Device (PPD). If you don't have access to a PPD, contact the installer that manages your Salto installation. They will be able to help.

The Salto PPD

Auto-Resolution

This insight resolves automatically when the lock reports a correct clock after being updated with the PPD.

Note: Until the clock is corrected, users may experience intermittent or complete access failures. Prioritize this fix if users report being unable to open the door.

End User Notification

When this issue is detected, end users with keys to the affected lock(s) will see a warning in the Unloc app underneath the open button, plus a more detailed description when opening the door page.
